The National Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine said in a statement that the investigators accused the driver and his entourage of "using diplomatic immunities and privileges and official means of transportation" to try to illegally transport the goods to the European Union. Two other officials were also allegedly involved in the attempted smuggling, including the father of the embassy attache.
On March 1st, Ukrainian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Doumet Kuleba confirmed that the two staff members had been dismissed, and reminded other diplomats to take a warning.
