The main creative team of "Hedgehog" gathers on the banks of the Daliva River in East China
"’I don’t forgive’ is this year’s line of the year."
On August 24th at 1:00 pm, the roadshow of the movie "Hedgehog" was held in Siqun Hall, Putuo Campus of East China Normal University. Film director Gu Changwei, screenwriter Zheng Zhi, lead actor Ge You and Wang Junkai visited the Riva River in person and talked to professors Huang Ping and Mao Jian of East China Normal University. Nearly 600 teachers, students and media reporters from East China Normal University arrived at the scene.
Once the news of the event was announced, it immediately caused a sensation, and the enthusiasm of the teachers and students at the school made it difficult to get a vote for this event.
The event was sponsored by the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee of East China Normal University, the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of East China Normal University, the Department of Chinese of East China Normal University, and the School of International Chinese Culture of East China Normal University.
Before the conversation began, the audience collectively watched the "Hedgehog" film. The film won the Golden Goblet Award for Best Screenplay at the Shanghai International Film Festival in June this year. It is based on the short story "Fairy Disease" written by Zheng Zhi, which tells the story of Wang Zhantuan and his nephew Zhou Zheng, who are "eccentric" and "geeks". Trapped between life and family love, the two people accompany and warm each other, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in this unique and absurd Northeast past.
Then the conversation began under the auspices of Huang Ping, a professor of Chinese at East China Normal University. Huang Ping warmly welcomed the arrival of Gu Changwei, Zheng Zhi, Ge You and Wang Junkai, and concluded the film’s protagonist, "Wang Zhantuan and Zhou are the outliers in the eyes of others, but they are confidants in each other’s hearts. Only they can truly understand that’Be yourself, you are not sick! ‘"
The film’s creative team took the stage to the cheers and applause of the audience, sharing the creative story behind the scenes with everyone.
The film creator team shares the film creation story during the dialogue
Professor Mao Jian first shared her experience of watching the film. She believes that the reality and surreality of the film perfectly confirm each other, and the shocking "I don’t forgive" sentence at the end of the film is this year’s "line of the year".
The four creators gave their own answers to the question of what the hedgehog’s "thorn" represented.
Screenwriter Zheng Zhi
The screenwriter Zheng Zhi believes that "Hedgehog" is a more suitable film title than "Immortal Disease". It is clear and intuitive, and has something to express. "Thorn" is also an important role in the film, not to hurt others, but to protect himself.
Director Gu Changwei
Gu Changwei recalled the 20-year directing career from "Peacock" to "Hedgehog". Gu Changwei said that compared with "Peacock", "Hedgehog" embodies a more radical but also brighter attitude towards life. The time span of "Hedgehog" movie is very long, but I hope to integrate today’s feelings and values, so that everyone can live a more exciting life.
Starring Wang Junkai
Wang Junkai recalled the story during the filming of the film and shared his solutions when he was "stuck". "Our crew has a room where everyone can chat about the play, eat and drink, and talk about the characters and feelings. I grew up watching Uncle Ge’s movies, and I was a little timid at first, but Uncle Ge was very easy-going, and we were like a family, and the pressure during shooting was much less."
Starring Ge You
Regarding the unique "humor" of the Wang Zhantuan, Ge You believes that "although this play has many humorous plots, it is not a comedy. The performance is still serious and honest, and the humor is naturally revealed through the plot content."
Interview host, Professor Mao Jian, School of International Chinese Culture, East China Normal University
Interview moderator, Professor Huang Ping, Department of Chinese, East China Normal University
Regarding Ge You’s performance, Mao Jian said, "The Wang Zhantuan is really suitable for you to play. Only you can play the Wang Zhantuan in a realistic and surreal way, normal and abnormal, crazy and not crazy, completing the dialectics of the special personality on the screen."
At the end of the conversation, the four main creators expressed their blessings.
"I hope everyone will pay attention to rest when studying and can lie down more."
"If there are still viewers who haven’t seen’Hedgehog ‘, then I’can’t forgive’."
"I hope everyone will use the line’I don’t forgive ‘more and never compromise in the face of hurt."
"I hope the movie’Hedgehog ‘and everyone can have good luck and be a wonderful version of themselves."
Questions from the audience during the free speech session
In the free speech session, the audience at the scene said that they had developed a strong empathy for the stories of Wang Zhantuan and Zhou Zheng. The mutual understanding of the two made the shock and heart disease in the eyes of outsiders into valuable personalities. This story of the two confidants "going crazy" together and crossing countless "stuck" moments is touching.
At the end of the event, the host once again thanked the "Hedgehog" film creators and wished the film a new breakthrough.
"The world is not black and white, but whether you accept it or not."
"From now on, I will no longer be stuck by everything."
