  The reporter learned today from the symposium on strengthening the protection of giant pandas held by National Forestry and Grassland Administration in Chengdu that the National Research Center for the Protection of Giant Pandas was officially unveiled in Chengdu this morning. The National Giant Panda Conservation Research Center is a world-class platform for giant panda scientific research cooperation and exchange, which is based on the integration of the resources of China Giant Panda Conservation Research Center and two scientific research institutions in chengdu research base of giant panda, and the gathering of outstanding national giant panda scientific research teams. The platform has set up the Academic Committee of Giant Panda Protection Research and the National Innovation Alliance for Giant Panda Protection, led by Wei Fuwen, an academician of China Academy of Sciences, built the National Forestry and Grassland Administration Key Laboratory for Giant Panda, and vigorously promoted the establishment of the National Key Laboratory for the Protection of Endangered Animals such as Giant Panda.

  National Forestry and Grassland Administration, Sichuan Forestry and Grass Bureau and Chengdu Municipal Government jointly invested the first phase of 110 million yuan to set up a research fund for the protection of giant pandas, and simultaneously launched two major joint research projects, namely, the research on key technologies for the protection of wild giant panda populations and habitats in national parks and the research on key technologies for the protection of genetic diversity of captive giant panda populations. National Forestry and Grassland Administration has given great support to the National Conservation and Research Center of Giant Panda in funding projects and policies. Chengdu Municipal Government has formulated various support policies such as scientific research infrastructure construction and talent incentive.
